Parasites: The Hidden Invaders Affecting Your Health

When Your Body Feels Off and Nobody Has Answers

You are tired in a way that sleep does not fix. You are bloated after almost every meal. Your skin keeps flaring up. You have brain fog that just will not lift. You have had labs run and been told everything looks fine, maybe handed a diagnosis like irritable bowel syndrome or chronic fatigue, and sent on your way.

But you still do not feel well.

Here is something that is rarely discussed in conventional care: it could be parasites.

I know. Stay with me. Because this is not here to scare you. It is here to give you a piece of the puzzle that may have been missing from your health picture for a very long time.

This Is More Common Than You Think

The biggest myth in American healthcare is that parasitic infections are a problem for developing countries. That is simply not accurate.

The World Health Organization estimates over 3.5 billion people worldwide are affected by parasitic infections. Personally, I think that number is low. Because in this country, we are not looking for them. And what you do not look for, you do not find.

In many other parts of the world, parasite cleansing is regular health maintenance. People know they are being exposed through their food, water, and soil, and they do something about it. Here in the United States, we keep our eyes closed until symptoms become impossible to ignore. And even then, conventional medicine is rarely looking in the right direction.

You Are Being Exposed Every Single Day

You do not need to travel internationally to be exposed. It happens through the most ordinary daily activities: undercooked meats, raw seafood, unwashed produce, tap water, contaminated soil, and yes, your pets. Cats and dogs carry roundworms and hookworms regularly. We deworm our animals because we know they have worms. The logical next question is: what about us?

Exposure is not a sign of being unclean or careless. It is simply biology.

This is not about fear. It is about awareness. Because once you understand what is possible, you can start asking better questions.

What Parasites Are Actually Doing to You

Parasites are not passive passengers. They are living organisms with needs, and meeting those needs comes at a direct cost to you.

The biggest thing they do is steal your nutrients before your cells ever get the chance to use them. This is why people become deeply deficient even when eating well. Low ferritin, B12, zinc, vitamin D, magnesium: these are not random. They can be a direct consequence of a parasitic burden that nobody thought to look for.

Beyond nutrient theft, parasites can damage the gut lining, trigger chronic inflammation, disrupt the gut-brain connection, drive sugar cravings, disturb sleep, affect mood, and contribute to skin conditions that keep coming back no matter what you put on them.

The symptoms are vague enough that they get chalked up to stress, aging, hormones, or food sensitivities. But the root cause conversation is rarely had. That is the problem.

Common Signs of a Parasitic Burden

  • Persistent bloating or digestive issues

  • Fatigue that does not improve with rest

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • Sugar and carbohydrate cravings

  • Skin issues like acne, eczema, or rashes

  • Disrupted sleep or waking between 1–3 AM

  • Low iron, B12, or vitamin D levels

  • Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability

One of the reasons this goes overlooked is because conventional testing often misses it. These organisms are not easily detected, and when you are not looking for something, it rarely gets found.

Your Body Is Not Broken

None of this is your fault. Exposure is unavoidable. What matters is that we start addressing it.

Parasite cleansing is not complicated. I think of it like an oil change for your body. Regular maintenance for a system that is being exposed to the world every single day. Even if you have no obvious symptoms, a periodic cleanse is one of the most proactive things you can do for your long-term health.

Your symptoms deserve a real explanation. Not just a label. Not just a prescription. A root-cause conversation that actually moves the needle.

Want to Go Deeper?

This blog only scratches the surface. In our latest Mindful Healing podcast episode, “Parasites: The Hidden Invaders Wreaking Havoc on Your Health”, I walk through exactly what parasites are, how we are exposed, what they do inside the body, which symptoms to watch for, and why conventional testing misses them almost every time.

If you have been dealing with symptoms that do not fully make sense, this episode will connect the dots in a way you may not have heard before.

If any of this resonated with you, go listen. And if you are ready to have this conversation about your own health, I am here.

Wishing you love, light, and continued healing,
Dr. Hopkins
